Abstract
Successful target discrimination using the ultra wideband (UWB) radar hinges on an accurate understanding of the scattering behavior of complex radar targets. In the present study, a mathematical model of the UWB radar target is developed based on the analysis of its impulse response. Then an improved matrix pencil (MP) method with adaptive selection of the frequency sampling interval is proposed to extract the target scattering centers. Simulation experiments show that with the present method, the estimated scattering centers of the given UWB radar target are accurate and reliable even at the low signal noise ratio of 6 dB.
