Title :
TESS: a mobility expert system
Author_Institution :

Abstract :
Describes TESS, a mobility expert system that employs knowledge based techniques to reason about the factors that influence unit movement. As a result, it can produce accurate and timely estimates of unit travel times, and qualitative predictions about unit behaviour. It can be used as both a component of a data fusion system, or as a stand-alone decision support system. TESS is currently being implemented using ESB, a sophisticated knowledge based system construction tool. Following a review of the problem area, the paper presents a general overview of the TESS architecture, and a gives functional outline of each major component. It then discusses the TESS route evaluation mechanism, paying particular attention to the role of artificial intelligence techniques
