Abstract
In this paper, the vision and design of a knowledge-base software tool for testing VoIP gateway application are described. The tool is unique in nature in various ways. The tool can be extended easily and dynamically to incorporate more parameters that are relevant in testing a VoIP gateway software or similar applications while also effectively generate test cases. In general, testing a medium to large size software is a paramount task - both in terms of effort and cost. While exhaustive testing is impossible in reality, finding the optimum test cases are not easy either. The rapid technological advancement in many telecommunication areas e.g. in the area of voice over IP makes it even much harder. Because, the effective and efficient testing depends on the knowledge of the testers on the technology to a great extent and it´s extremely challenging to keep up with the new technology with the enormous time to market pressure and thereby tight delivery schedule. In a unique way, the tool acts as a subject matter expertise in VoIP area and as an experienced tester helping junior testers and/or testers new to this field developing excellent test plan with suites of test cases to test various functionalities of the VoIP gateway products.
