  • Abstract
    The cavitational mechanism of ageing takes place in operating oil-filled electric equipment under the influence of an alternating or pulsing voltage in addition to thermal and electrical mechanisms. A number of experimental and theoretical arguments in defense of the cavitational mechanism of electrical insulation ageing are presented. An estimation is given of the possibility of the decomposition of insulating fluids under operating conditions due to cavitation. A rapid method is proposed for comparison of resistance of insulating fluids to gasification (gassing), based on the effect of cavitational degradation of insulation
