Abstract :
The characterization of the wireless channel on board of a ship is carried out by using a deterministic three-dimensional ray tracing (RT) simulator. The indoor propagation environment on board of a ship is very complex: ships are often made with metallic bulkheads, acting as a good reflector for electromagnetic waves. Furthermore, signals are strongly attenuated when penetrating the metal. For these reasons, the characterization of the wireless channel on board ship has been analyzed in previous studies only through measurement campaigns and simplified models. The purpose of this study is to apply an efficient ray tracing technique to analyze the propagation aboard ships in LOS and NLOS conditions.
