Abstract
New insulation products should be compatible with existing materials and techniques when employed by repair shops. Their unique characteristics should extend service life and improve the performance of rebuilt machines. Rotating machinery engineers must evaluate potential advantages of improved materials against application problems that may develop. This paper describes the successful first use of a corona-resistant polyimide film as strand/turn insulation in the stator rewind of a 10100 kW, 13.2 kV motor. Material compatibility with an epoxy “B” stage resin rich insulation system is discussed. The results of dielectric and voltage endurance tests are presented
