Abstract :
The paper covers the development of a modular dynamic simulation tool for turbogenerator control system design purposes. More advanced forms of digital control require such tools for development and validation. The turbogenerator is both complex and nonlinear, and is so expensive to run that full size testing of experimental controllers is hardly ever feasible. This stresses the need for reliable and accurate simulations. Some of the features of the turbogenerator models required are outlined, representing a fairly challenging modelling task, as they are inherently nonlinear. Complexity can be reduced by transformation methods to produce a dq axis model. This eliminates one source of difficulty, as the normal 3 phase model is far more complex, due to trigonometric functions of the rotor angle entering the equations. Such a dq axis model has been used in this initial study, being well suited to control design.
