Abstract :
This paper reports on the continuing development of a coherent optical synthesizer, based upon a combination of optical frequency-interval division, and an optical comb generated by a mode-locked laser. We report on the synthesizer design, as well as presenting the measured stability of the crucial elements. Based on these measurements, we estimate that the overall fractional frequency stability of the synthesizer will be in the range of 10/sup -15///spl tau/, where /spl tau/ is the integration time of the measurement.
