  • Abstract
We propose a hybrid self-healing mechanism with priority restoration for ATM networks, which integrates a backup-VP restoration method and a distributed flooding algorithm in the ATM layer, in order to meet the different requirements of service classes of survivability with minimum cost. This mechanism can restore higher priority VPs quickly by using pre-assigned backup VPs in the case of a single failure. It can also improve the restoration time of higher priority VPs in the case of multi-failures. The flooding algorithm is adopted to restore the remain lower priority VPs father. This mechanism uses the network resources more efficiently and obtains a better cost-performance feature
