Abstract :
A fast, mathematically simple and robust method for the pattern synthesis of cylindrical patch antenna arrays is described. The procedure is based on a least mean square (LMS) algorithm and therefore does not need any non-linear optimization techniques. Furthermore by introducing a weighting function it is shown that great improvements of the resulting patterns can be achieved. Using the properties of the Fourier transform the involved integrals can be replaced by rapidly converging sums. This method is applied to single- and multi-beam patterns and provides excellent results with sidelobe levels lower than ¿30dB. It shows a very insensitive behaviour to quantization levels of digital phase shifters.
