Abstract
This paper takes a close look at the use of neural networks for modelling and control. It is shown how the use of such networks for linear systems can be clearly regarded as bad practice, reference being made in particular to discrete-time, CARMA models. In particular it is shown how gross over-parameterization can occur, resulting in poor controller convergence and ultimately poor control.
