Abstract :
High performance computing resources are characterized by geographically contagious distribution in chinese meteorological departments. Local meteorological bureaus are left behind by national level institutions, whether in the possession of HPC resources and application development capabilities. As a result, they fail to conduct local meteorological forecast operations or research. On the other hand, it´s an urgent task for NMIC to upgrade system management from homogeneous systems to global system management across multiple heterogeneous systems. Funded by “National Science and Technology Infrastructure Plan”, regarding the requirements of resource integration, sharing and management by local and national institutions in meteorological department, a design scheme of national meteorological computing application system is proposed. The scheme utilizes computational Grid as the platform building technology. Regarding the structure of meteorological computing Grid, a distributed, tightly coupled Grid architecture is presented comprising a national level major node and subordinate nodes dispersed across the country. Within a node, the design scheme includes user interface, Grid management, high performance computer local management. Regarding integration requirement of heterogeneous computing resources, a solution is proposed consisting of globally coherent, centralized user management and meta-scheduler of job management.
