Abstract :
This paper presents a framework for supporting advance reservation service in GMPLS-based WDM networks. In this framework, we develop a wavelength reservation model and a signaling control model for dynamic and automated provisioning of lightpaths for advance reservation requests. In the wavelength reservation model, time is divided into a series of short fixed-length timeslots. A wavelength can be reserved at the beginning of a timeslot, at the granularity of a timeslot, and for an integer number of timeslots. The signaling control model consists of two phases: resource reservation and resource utilization. The resource reservation phase is used for reserving wavelength resources. The resource utilization phase is used for confirming the reserved wavelength resources before they are utilized. To support advance reservation service in GMPLS, extensions to RSVP-TE and CR-LDP signaling protocols are also briefly discussed based on the signaling control model.
