Abstract :
We are developing a light source at 370 nm for driving the /sup 2/S/sub 1/2/-/sup 2/P/sub 1/2/ cooling transition by sum-frequency mixing of radiation from two diode lasers with a doubly resonant external cavity. To drive the /sup 2/D/sub 3/2/-/sup 3/D[3/2]/sub 1/2/ repumping transition at 935 nm, we developed two types of external cavity diode lasers. Applications of them to laser-cooled trapped Yb/sup +/ ions are also presented.
