Summary form only given. The importance of automation in the process industry has increased dramatically in the last years. Innovative instrumentation systems nowadays control complex processes, ensure process reliability and safety and provide the basis for advanced maintenance strategies. The chemical, pharmaceutical, food, beverage and tobacco industries are all taking advantage of new technological opportunities including process analytics in combination with sophisticated control technology across a network of systems and fulfil automated micro reaction systems.
