Abstract :
A popular model describing the statistics of remote sensed data is based on the decomposition of the area illuminated by the sensor into several facets which act as elementary scatterers. We Investigate whether significant changes in the received electromagnetic field statistics may be induced by a modification of the microscopic details of the surface. Here microscopic means a scale length shorter then the typical dimension of a facet. We show that the overall field statistical characterization is very weakly dependent on the microscopic fractal dimension of the illuminated surface
