Abstract
In dynamic wireless networks, effective modeling on link behavior would lead the network protocol design towards a predictive and reasonable way. Emerging mobile ad hoc network (MANET), however, is of self-organizing and infrastructureless paradigm, where topology dynamics are highly related to many complicated parameters, such as node density, mobility model, and transmission range etc, which make it difficult to model. We propose a new modeling technique based on link-broken rate (LBR) so as to characterize topology dynamics. In the proposed scheme, a M/G/∞/∞ cyclic queuing model is created to analysis the characteristic of dynamic link and analytic expression derived to characterize the statistic for dynamic link. Employing the commercial simulation platform Qualnet, we set up series of simulation tests and evaluate our proposed model reasonably. The simulation results show that, our proposed dynamic link model can integrate the node density, mobility, velocity, and transmission range efficiently, which could help us essentially characterize the network. It could also provide meaningful theoretical results for analysis and simulation works for further studies on network dynamics.
