Abstract :
The models that relate wind speed and direction to C-band σ 0 values from the active microwave instrument on the European Research Satellite-1 are shown to have systematic errors in wind speed and direction. It is anticipated that there will also be systematic errors for the SASS-II model for NSCAT on ADEOS. Ways to obtain an improved model are described
