Abstract
The paper introduces the Personal Access Communications System (PACS) as one of the most promising new PCS technologies available today. In particular, the features and functions of PACS-based PCS network are discussed. The PACS-based system distinguishes itself from other low tier options such as DECT and PHS by its lower delay, higher capacity, better receiver sensitivity, improved system broadcast capability, and improved mobility. It is shown that PACS could provide an attractive alternative for many wireless applications including personal mobility, neighborhood PCS, wireless local loop, and wireless Centrex/PBX
