Abstract
Self-organizing fuzzy controllers (SOCs) are capable of generating and modifying the control protocol by a learning process based on measuring performance. The SOC described here is based on that presented by T.J. Procyk and E.H. Mamdani (1979). The learning behavior of the SOC is based on using a set of performance rules that describe the desired performance of the controller in terms of the deviation of the process output from a desired set-point. The controller is applied to a level control rig to examine its behavior in dealing with a real plant and demonstrate its learning capability in dealing with changes in the characteristics of the process under control
