Abstract :
A method for constructing a knowledge base is described that has the potential for a wide range of applications. The behavior of human beings is generally regarded as a cycle of recognition of their environment, judgement, and action. This model of behavior consists of two processes: a responsive action devoid of intentional judgement and action based on knowledge and restrictions. Using this model, a three-layer knowledge base was developed that draws on common sense, knowledge based on experience, and restriction. In this way a satisfactory knowledge base was constructed so that the reliability of control devices can be significantly enhanced. The authors describe how the layers of knowledge have been constructed by applying fuzzy control to the shift scheduling for automatic transmission cars, and they present field test results that verify the effectiveness of the approach
