Abstract :
The author reports on field research done for the Fuzzy Initiative in North-Rhine Westphalia (NRW). A questionnaire was prepared and sent to more than a thousand companies in NRW. 135 replies were received. More than 30 companies in different industries were visited. It was found that: a number of companies sited in NRW offer tools for the development of fuzzy systems and services such as training, seminars and consulting; fuzzy logic plays an important role at many universities and polytechnics; the importance of fuzzy technology is well understood in Germany; the fields of fuzzy control and fuzzy optimization were of great interest
