Evaluating the Impact of LIS Open Access Journals

Abstract :
This study selected 97 LIS open access journals, and evaluated the impact of them. The results indicated that LIS open access journals had become significant component of scholarly communication, Journal of Medical Library Association had the highest citation counts in Web of Science, followed by D-Lib Magazine and Information Research. Journal of Medical Library Association, D-Lib Magazine, Information Research, Ariadne, Cybermetrics, and First Monday were the 6 most important LIS open access journals, 10 classic papers were published on Cybermetrics (4), Journal of Medical Library Association (2), D-Lib Magazine (2), Information Research (1), and First Monday (1), " Sitations: an exploratory study " ranked 1st of the 10 classic papers. As the coverage in LISA, Bulletin des Bibliotheques de France (2151) performed best, followed by Journal of Medical Library Association (2068) and Information Research (850).
