Abstract :
A compact novel C-band 580W SSPA for microwave satellite communications carth station has been made practicable for commercial use by using a newly developed compact rectangular coaxial line combiner, suitable cooling system and high power 35W GaAs FETs. This SSPA has excellent performances which are a match for 1.2kW or greater TWTA and also has high reliability(long life-time). So it is not necessary to make periodical maintenance like a TWTA. In addition, an overall cost of SSPA, which includes initial cost and replacement cost, is smaller than TWTA´s one. Furthermore, the SSPA also has high power added efficiency. It is useful for microwave satellite communications earth station in place of conventional TWTAs.
