Abstract
Europe has stolen a lead in mobile communications with the success of the GSM system. This paper updates the progress in application of the system at 900, 1800 and 1900MHz and the components now available that have made this possible. In looking to the future, the application CMOS technology to high volume RF circuits is considered and the convergence of mobile communications and computing is featured.
