Abstract
A modified split ring resonator (mSRR) is incorporated into a compact folded dipole antenna structure to lower the resonant frequency of the circuit. The resonance characteristics of the antenna are further improved by incorporating a solid ground plane. By integrating a varactor diode as an integral part of the antenna, the resonance characteristics of the antenna can be electronically tuned. A tuning range of 480 MHz is achieved. The proposed design leads to a significant reduction in the size of a folded monopole antenna while allowing integration of a varactor diode for reconfigurability.
