Abstract
In this paper, we consider a satellite switched TDMA (SS/TDMA) system where each spot-beam antenna with one carrier (transponder) covers the area overlapping half with its two adjacent spot-beam antennas, respectively. Both transmitter and receiver of each Earth station can be tuned to any one carrier of the two beams which cover it. A traffic reallocation algorithm is presented to balance the traffic on each uplink (or downlink) beam to minimize the required frame duration. In order to show the efficiency of our proposed system along with the new traffic algorithm, we compare it with two previous systems in terms of both traffic transmission time and switching number of the on-board switch. Computer simulations on random traffic are carried out, showing the evidence for performance improvement
