Abstract :
In indoor pico-cellular wireless systems, power is limited and therefore communication protocols need to be properly designed to conserve energy at the mobile stations. The existing schemes and heuristics to conserve power at the mobile devices by reducing the activity period of the mobile devices do not work effectively in a master driven TDD based systems such as Bluetooth. We propose new policies that use an existing low power mode in Bluetooth for power optimization at the MAC layer. We define a new measure of power utilization. We show that each of the proposed policies are improved compared to the naive scheduling and show improvements in the power consumption as well as a reduction of the average system delays
