Abstract :
Ultrasonography is a simple and painless procedure that has the added advantage of no radiation hazard. It is especially very helpful in obese women who might otherwise be difficult to examine. To determine the foetal sound, heart beat and movements on the abdominal wall of a pregnant woman, a biomedical diagnostic ultrasonic model application is proposed here. In view of the great achievements of ultrasonography, many pregnant women from within and outside the authors´ city turned up for clinical examination. The detection of a still baby and subsequently removing it from the womb was a major success in the authors´ clinical procedure. The transducer used in diagnostic ultrasound is made of piezoelectric ceramic. The piezoelectric effect is an inherent property of crystals with a polar electronic area. Ultrasound is generated by exciting vibrations of the piezoelectric transducer by an alternating electric field of an appropriate frequency. For an effective healthcare system the use of ultrasound equipment is vital. It is observed that a large number of these medical equipments in developing countries are imported and used for female foeticide amongst other things. The authors propose computer simulation runs that reveal or hypothesise that many patients will opt for ultrasonography over a period of time because of the availability of this facility
