Abstract :
The field of Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) is developing rapidly in parallel with advancements in the ESM world, to the point where at some time in the future there may be a convergence of capabilities in a single equipment. The Pulse Analyser function plays a critical role at the heart of all modem ELINT systems, enabling the user to selectively capture, analyse and store detailed pulse-by- pulse records of both the conventional and wide-band intrapulse characteristics of signals over a wide frequency coverage. This paper discusses the use of Pulse Analysers in a variety of application roles, explaining how they may be used to gather information that can be used to assist in the passive detection and identification of any platform emitting radar signals. This process will involve the measurement and analysis of both intentional and unintentional transmission characteristics of the signals.
