Abstract :
A new compact repetitive pulse-power generator which is based on PFN-LTD has been proposed. Prior to firing the switches, the PFN is charged in parallel directly by a high voltage power supply. The driving voltage pulses which are provided by the PFN, are set up by the linear transformer and drive the load directly without further pulse compression. This new pulse-power generator uses newly developed pulse forming module which can form low impedance and pulse width of several hundreds ns pulse easily. The experimental results indicate that the rise time of the high voltage pulse which is generated by the Blumlein pulse forming module is less than 40ns and the pulse width is about 230ns when the matching load is 2.5Ω. The charging voltage of the Blumlein pulse forming module is 6kV. A single stage PFN-LTD prototype has also been experimentally demonstrated with the rise time of the output voltage pulse about 50ns and the pulse width about 220ns under the matching load 2.5Ω. The charging voltage of the pulse forming module is 20kV. This new PFN-LTD direct driver will provide the capability to build compact repetitive pulse-power generator.
