Abstract :
The authors have proposed a simple mathematical model of synergistic interaction of various environmental physical and chemical agents. The model suggests that synergism is expected to result from an additional lethal damage arising from the interaction of sub-lesions induced by both agents. The model allows quantitatine optimisation of the combined action of two harmful agents and predicts the maximum value of the synergistic effect and conditions under which it can be achieved. The prediction of the model have bees tested using published experimental data. It is concluded that synergistic interaction can take place between an existing background of ionizing radiation, natural UV-radiation, hyperthermia and chemical pollution and thereby strengthen their harmful influence on health quality
