Abstract
A Pierce-wiggler electron-beam-formation system consisting of a conventional Pierce gun and an integral solenoidal-helical magnetic field has been designed and built. The combination magnetic field interacts with the beam and converts part of the axial beam velocity to rotational velocity suitable for use in a 250-GHz gyro-BWO (backward wave oscillator). Measured performance results are presented.<>
