Abstract :
The design of the shape of an arbitrary continuous transition between a standard rectangular waveguide and an overmoded one is optimised by means of an Electromagnectic field based CAD in order to obtain maximum power transfer to the fundamental mode of the overmoded waveguide. The transition is analysed by the local modes approach, that leads to a system of coupled differential equations (generalised telegraphist´s equations). The optimization process is also sped up by introducing a proper discretization in the solutions´ space.
