Abstract
A binary detection problem in which the observation noise is modeled as a hybrid system, i.e., a system characterized by abruptly changing parameters, is formulated. The optimal receiver for such a system, though conceptually straightforward, is too computationally complex to be practical. A suboptimal but practical receiver is presented and applied to the specific problem of direct sequence spread spectrum (DS/SS) communications in the presence of pulsed narrowband interference
