Abstract
A switch-node architecture for a LAN has been proposed to provide service for connection-oriented real time (voice) traffic. The topology of the switch-node is a bus. The key feature in the proposed scheme is the centralization, which has been exploited to provide the requisite flexibility for handling speech traffic. A worst case performance analysis of the proposed switch-node proves its feasibility for real time voice traffic, while a simulation study shows the actual efficiency of the switch-node. The proposed concurrent dual bus switch-node architecture with its centralized scheduling policy is a strong candidate to form the core of an efficient ISDN.<>
