Abstract :
Using H∞ optimisation decentralised controllers were designed to regulate mass flow for a hot strip mill. The systematic design procedure enabled controllers to be designed sequentially for each stand/interstand unit while stability between each unit was maintained. Results from a nonlinear simulation showed some improvements over conventional control. The design procedure can be extended in the future to include feedforward of upstream disturbances.
