Abstract
The ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) which has been determined by the CCITT recommendation I. 121 as the transfer mode for the B-ISDN (broadband-integrated services digital network) can be considered as a very fast packet switching method with a connection-oriented transport principle. However, the ATM effects new problems for the control mechanisms in the B-ISDN, from which the routing strategy is an important one. This article investigates the method of adaptive routing for B-ISDN system and compares it with fixed routing. Beside this the influence of the topology and the speed of dispatcher has been taken into account. It will be shown that adaptive routing algorithms do not improve the performance of an ATM-network under the assumptions made. Moreover it has turned out that a minimal speed of the dispatcher is existing.<>
