  • Abstract
The paper presents an N/spl times/N modular ATM switch which uses a fully interconnected switch fabric for no switch blocking and places two buffers at every output for storing high priority packets (realtime traffics) and low priority packets (non-realtime traffics). The switch operation is slotted. Packets of both priority classes can be queued in order when waiting for service and the service principles are FHLL (first high last low priority packets) and FCFS (first come first service within each priority queue). The paper analyzes completely performances of the switch, including the maximum throughput, the mean queue length of each buffet, the mean queueing delay and loss probability of packets, and then, a performance evaluation test is made on an 8/spl times/8 experimental switch architecture, the results show that this ATM switch meet perfectly requirements of high and low priority packets and is successful.<>
