Abstract
In this paper we report on investigations of indoor cellular networks for wireless access in a corporate environment. The aim is to point out possible critical aspects in radio link performance, among which are handover control within the indoor coverage and between the lower tier (indoor) and the upper tier (public cellular outdoor) in an integrated private/public environment, and power control. Results are reported on the performance of a handover initiation algorithm in the indoor system, as obtained from simulations. Spectrum sharing between the two tiers is assumed. Furthermore, other issues are addressed, that are related to network architecture and integration of the wireless access network with emerging IP-based technologies on the backbone side
