Abstract :
Substrate thickness was found to have a significant effect on the performance of a printed circular planar monopole antenna (PMA). As substrate thickness increased the following effects were observed: decreased impedance bandwidth, increased cross-polarization gain, decreased co-polarization gain, and multi-lobe radiation patterns towards the upper end of the band. Substrate dielectric constant mainly affected only the impedance bandwidth of the PMA in that increasing the substrate dielectric constant slightly decreased the impedance bandwidth.
