Abstract :
Both European and Japanese have shown interest in HDTV broadcasting by satellite while USA was interested in HDTV terrestrial broadcasting using digital image compression techniques. This was possible by latest VLSI developments in digital image compression for HDTV applications. Some of the digital HDTV systems developed in US and Europe are reviewed and compared.<>
