Abstract :
In this paper a new algorithm is proposed which reduces the amount of simulation time and memory requirements for longitudinally homogeneous structures substantially when using the TLM method. The number of TLM networks necessary to simulate waveguiding structures is reduced. Whereas usually two TLM networks are required for simulation, in our approach only two half networks are needed. This is achieved by taking advantage of certain symmetries arising from the longitudinal homogeneity. After explaining the theoretical background of this method briefy, the modified TLM algorith will be presented. The simulation of an inset dielectric waveguide will demonstrate the modified algorithm and underline its applicability.
