  • Abstract
We present a flexible air interface for an Integrated Broadband Mobile System, which utilises adaptive antenna arrays in three configurations. These, correspond to different classes of users which support different data rates and quality of service requirements. Due to the complexity of the smart antenna algorithms, a trade-off between data rate and mobility is required. The modulation and coding parameters of the various classes are specified and simulation results are shown for a space-time channel, considering a pre-RAKE and a space-time RAKE receiver
