Abstract :
Effects of alkali metal elements on the action of a vacuum arc were studied in metal surface cleaning. Substances containing these elements were applied in the form of their aqueous solution to the work piece surface. These substances had strong influence on surface roughness and cleaning rate. Reduction of surface roughness and increase of cleaning rate (oxide removal rate) were obtained. Maximum reduction of the surface roughness reached to 2.5 times less. The cleaning rate increased to 1.8 times higher.
