Abstract :
A novel technique for phase only array pattern synthesis is proposed in this study. The method starts with expressing the radiated power in terms of sines and cosines. Then, exploiting the orthogonality of these functions in the interval [-π π], an equation set is obtained, in which the variables are the desired power distribution and element phases. This nonlinear equation system comprises terms of sines and cosines of phase differences between elements. Any approximate solution of this equation set, which does not have an exact solution, is a candidate for phase only coefficients to be applied to the array.
