Abstract :
The third generation (3G) CDMA cellular standards include fast power control (FPC) on the forward link (base-to-mobile). The performance of FPC relative to traditional slow power control (SPC) is analyzed, and it is shown that FPC provides on the order of two times enhancement in capacity. Also, a novel transmit power management scheme is introduced that operates in conjunction with FPC to provide a significant capacity enhancement (as much as ten times)
