Abstract
The authors describe a new acoustic velocity sensor (SonTek ADVOcean) for use in hostile environments. The instrument is robust, corrosion-resistant, and is capable of measuring three components of flow at frequencies up to 25 Hz in a sampling volume approximately 12 mm in diameter and 12 mm long. A seven-week field trial was conducted in 6 m of water off the coast of California. The instrument performed without error. Representative data are presented
