Abstract :
Design of compact high voltage generator is described. The generator consists from: capacitive energy storage (2kJ); vacuum switch (200 kA); switch controlling device (40kV); Tesla transformer (20/1); glycerin pulse forming line (2.7 Ohm): oil switch (400-750 kV) with control unit; high-voltage insulator; self-magnetically insulated vacuum line; load. The generator produces high-voltage pulses with amplitude in the range of 350-500 kV and pulse duration 10-20 ns. It is meant for powering microwave sources, vacuum diodes or X-ray sources. Calculations of the electric field strength distribution in the generator units, reliability of their operation and results of test are presented.
