Abstract :
The paper develops a signal detection scheme based on wavelet packet theory, which has been introduced as an effective signal analysis tool by Coifman and Wikerhauser (1992). As is well known for the detection of transient signals with unknown arrival times, there is no uniform tool because the detector performance usually depends on the signal representation. If all the signal components are similar, the present method, called the wavelet packet detection algorithm (WPDA), provides the possibility of detecting different arrival times correctly, even in the case that their waveforms overlap too much. The experiments show that WPDA can achieve satisfactory performance.<>
